Unsure what to do with Training Load? Read our guide on Understanding Training Load.

Arc provides multiple methods for calculating training load for your team, which can be used singularly, or all-at-once.

Turning Training Load Settings On or Off

You can access the settings to toggle training load calculations on or off via the sidebar: Admin -> Settings -> Training Load.

Within each Training Load type, you can further configure the training load formula to suit your needs.

Fine Tuning Training Load Settings

Acute Period (days)

How many days of training data should be used to calculate the ATL score? Recommended: 7

Chronic Period (days)

How many days of training data should be used to calculate the CTL score? Recommended: 28 - 42

Session Weighting

When calculating ATL and CTL, sessions can be averaged using a Rolling Average, which provides an even weighting to every session in the ATL/CTL period, or they can be averaged using a Weighted Average, which weights more recent workouts higher. An appealing factor of the Weighted Average, is that the ATL/CTL accumulates from the previous day, meaning the first session an athlete ever completed still has some (albeit extremely minor) weighting in their final score.

TSB Calculation Method

There are multiple formulas for comparing ATL and CTL for the resulting TSB score. We highly recommend reading our guide on Training Stress Balance to understand the pros and cons of each formula.

TSB Thresholds

You can provide TSB thresholds which flag whether an athlete is Over-reaching, Productively training, Transitional, Competition-ready, or Losing fitness, based on their current TSB score. Sensible defaults have been provided, but you may need to fine-tune this depending on the settings you have configured above.
