The Team Chat module allows staff and athletes to message each other using the Arc Mobile, or Arc Web app.

Please note that users accessing Team Chat via mobile will require at least version 4.5.0 of the Arc Mobile app.

Starting a new Chat

To start a new chat in the Arc Web Platform, visit the "Chat" sidebar item. If you have permissions to start a new chat, you will see a "New" button next to the heading of the page.

From here, select the person(s) or group(s) you would like to message in the "To" field. You can also type to search if they do not appear initially.

At the bottom of the screen is a message field, where you can type a message and/or attach a file before clicking "Send".

Starting a new Group Chat

Following the steps above, you can add multiple multiple people in the "To" field. If you have already created a group in Arc, you can also search for it by typing the name into the "To" field, and selecting it in the dropdown when it appears. After sending your message to a chat with a group assigned, all current members of the group will be assigned to the chat.

NOTICE: If you add or remove users from the group assigned to the conversation, the conversation will NOT update to reflect these changes. You will have to add or remove these members from the conversation manually.

I would like to message [Name], but they do not appear in the list, why?

Arc is used by many age-groups across multiple disciplines; from schools and amateur teams, to elite and tactical organisations. To emphasise safety for all, Arc filters the list of people you can message to athlete's who's data you have access to or - if you're an athlete - staff who have access to your data. Staff always have the ability to message each other.

In the near future we will provide controls to further restrict or broaden access to the chat functionality.

Making Changes to an Existing Chat

You may update a chat by clicking the three dots icon in the top-right corner of the page. This will reveal a sidebar with a number of options you may change:

Naming a Chat

You may optionally name a chat, which can help make chats easier to find, or to provide a topic for discussion. If you decide you no longer want a chat name, you can clear this field, which will revert to the default of listing the names of the chat participants.

Adding or removing users from a chat

Similar to the "To" field, you will have the ability to add or remove users or groups using the "Participants" dropdown box. You may also type to search for the user(s) or group(s) you are looking for. Click the "x" in the textbox to remove all participants, or the "x" next to the particpant's name to remove only that participant.

Assigning Admins to a Chat

You may promote any of the conversation participants using the "Admins" field. Assigning a participant as an admin will allow that person to make the following changes to a conversation:

  • Update the name of the chat

  • Add or remove participants

  • Add or remove other admins, EXCEPT for the user who created the conversation

Leaving a Chat

If you wish to leave a chat, there is a "Leave Chat" button at the bottom of the sidebar.

If you were the only admin in a chat, the earliest remaining person will be automatically promoted to admin

I don't want Chat functionality for my team - can I disabled it?

Currently there are no settings to disable Chat in Arc, however we can take care of this by messaging us via the Support widget.
